Meet Janell Kaplan

Janell Kaplan, BSc, LMT // Founder

Janell Kaplan is a Reston, Virginia-based functional nutrition counselor and therapeutic bodyworker. Before opening Nova Functional Nutrition in northern Virginia, she ran private practices in Louisville, Kentucky, the Washington, D.C. metro area, and in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington. Since 2003, nutrition has been her constant, and she has studied it intensely – at first because her health depended on it, and then because her clients’ health depended on it. After graduating from American Military University with a BSc in Health Sciences and Psychology, Janell expanded her therapeutic bodywork practice to include nutrition coaching and counseling. She is board certified and Kentucky state-licensed in therapeutic massage and bodywork, specialized in resolving the core causes of people’s most chronic conditions, and she is on track to graduate with a MSc in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in early 2019, which is renowned for its functional medicine approach to nutrition.

Janell has completed continuing education in applied kinesiology, Ayurvedic herbs and nutrition for cancer, integrative cancer care, craniosacral therapy (CST), psychology of the body, somatoemotional release (SER), and more. She is also a member of multiple professional organizations including: American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM), American College of Nutrition (ACN), American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), Kentucky Board of Licensure for Massage Therapy, National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP), and National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
